WHY WE MADE THIS KIT

Sensory walls can be effective tools for children’s development because they encourage cognitive development from a young age. They present dynamic opportunities for interaction, discovery, learning, and empathy. 

Children are naturally drawn to soft textures and vibrant colours, so we’ve curated this fiber pack around those preferences. Any maker who’s ever set up a market or booth to sell their fibre art will have observed how connected even adults tend to be with tactility. For those of you who have done this, how many people touched your creations instinctively while walking by them? It’s as if reaching out to touch soft things is germane to human experience at any age. 

Sensory learning is a crucial way that children learn to process sensory information, learn to build fine motor skills, and learn to observe their environments for cues. For these reasons, sensory walls are often used to help children facing sensory processing challenges. 

INCLUDED IN THE KIT

     1) One piece of treated, washed driftwood from Vancouver Island 

     2) 6 X 100g balls of 3mm Braided Cotton Cord (a great choice for beginners to knot with). Each ball contains approximately 120 feet of continuous, vibrantly coloured fibre. 

     3) A colourful set of 13 differently textured fibres:

With one Sensory Wall Hanging Kit, you will receive enough material to make either one large wall hanging, two medium sized wall hangings, or 3-4 small wall hangings.
